Dear Bloggers,
I know many of you are eagerly waiting for second round of our “Best Mumbai Blog Competition”. So here we are. Back with the competition. Some major updates.

1) We have removed the word “Mumbai” from the “Best Mumbai Blog Competition”. The competition is now open for all bloggers.
2) We’ve divided the competition in 5 blog types.

–> Blogs about Mumbai
–> Internet, technology and Social media
–> Sports, politics and current affairs
–> Humor, sarcasm or witty blogs
–> Anything that doesn’t fit above category

FollowFriday: Mumbai Magic

This Friday we recommend you a blog managed by 3 authors. Its not so unique having a multiauthor blog. But the unique fact about this blog is it is managed by three generations. Grandma, mom and daughter together manage this blog.

Check out Mumbai Magic. This is a blog managed by Janaki, her daughter Deepa and granddaughter Aishwarya. The blog often contains interesting insights about Mumbai as seen from eyes of three different generations and the posts are often made interesting with suitable photographs.

The blog is also reference by National Geographic. In their on words, this blog is

Cull cultural tips and highlights from this family’s three-generational approach to Mumbai. The insightful photography and anecdotal writings stem from the three women’s local expertise.

The blog is definitely worth checking out.

FollwFriday: Bombaylives

FollowFriday is a concept we picked up from twitter where many twitterers suggest people worth following and the suggestion tweet is tagged with #followfriday. Mumbaibloggers thought of implementing the same concept to blogging and suggest some blogs worth visiting. So here we go.

Our first FollowFriday suggestion is Bombaylives. The blog was amongst the winners of Best Mumbai Blog Competition arranged by MumbaiBloggers.

The blog is maintained by Satish Vijaykumar, a Gulf Returnee and Mobile Campaign Ideater & Planner. His blog is often filled with interesting images from Mumbai and suburbs. Being a travel and photography enthusiast, you always get to see a new view of Mumbai through his camera lenses. He also shares various events happening across the city.

Satish is also the person behind the often discussed Sapling project.

Like we announced earlier, we are coming up with a series of posts about bloggers who are doing something good for the society. We need co-operation from all bloggers and readers for this. Here’s how you can help.

Suggest: Suggest us some bloggers who are doing something for society. Mail us in brief about the blogger and the cause he is working for. Links / News articles will be highly appreciated.

Spread Word: Blog about the cause you find worth blogging about. Spread the word about the cause through blog, mail, twitter, SMS..

Motivate: Motivate the bloggers working for cause by sending him congratulations letter and gifts. Even a small gift like your brand merchandise or an appreciation letter would be motivational factor for them.

We at MumbaiBloggers always talked of the “Offline Blogger”. We always believed that a blogger is much more than his blog. Every blogger is a part of society, every blogger gains a lot from the society and every bloggers gives back to society in some or the other way.
Taking an initiative towards exposing and felicitating this “Giving back” part, MumbaiBloggers will talk of the Mumbai based bloggers who are doing their bit to make the world a better place.

Best Blog Competition: A report

The “Best Mumbai Blog Competition” got over on 17-03-09 with announcement of results. Here is a brief report about the competition.

Process

The competition happened in three steps.

I. Registration
The registration was open for 15 days and saw 59 people registering for the competition.
II. Voting
The voting was kept open for 3 weeks for registered users only. Every registered user was allowed to vote for upto 5 blogs. A total of 296 votes were casted in these 3 weeks.
III. Expert Judging
The top 5 blogs were judged by our expert judging panel. The final winners were decided based on public voting and Expert judging with an weighted ratio of 75:25.

The three winners were as follows.

3. Satish

What did the winners get

The winners got-
1) Congratulation letter and gift merchandise from MumbaiBloggers

Amit Agarwal

Amit holds an Engineering degree in Computer Science from IIT and has previously worked with clients like ADP, Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch. In 2004, Amit quit his job to become India’s first and only professional blogger.

Amits authors the hugely popular and award winning Digital Inspiration blog where he covers computer software reviews, consumer gadgets, tutorials and web applications for personal productivity. He also writes personal technology columns for The Hindustan Times and Financial Express, both leading national dailies.

Sathyajith Bhat

Sathya a Software engineer working at 3i Infotech Ltd since a past 1 and half years. He first started blogging back in 2006.
